Sraosha is one of the amesha spentas, who are the Zoroastrian equivalents
of the Judeo-Christian archangels. Sraosha set the world in
motion and is also the angel who carries the soul away following
death. According to one legend, Sraosha comes to Earth each night to
chase the demon of violence and anger. In Manicheism, which combines
Zoroastrian, Gnostic, Christian, and pagan elements, Sraosha is
the “angel of obedience” who judges the dead.
