. Most fathers of the church, however, repudiated thisview of Origen’s as heretical.
In his philosophical masterpiece, De Principiis, Origen affirms that
angels derive their position or rank according to their merit, and further
hypothesizes that angels are neither impeccable nor unredeemable.
Origen also treats the notion of guardian angels, suggesting
that we are both tempted by evil spirits and guided and guarded by
good ones—specifically that one angel is assigned to everyone as his
or her protector.
